As there are many reasons for extrusion instability, it is difficult to find a clear solution. However, following solutions can be used to diminish the problems from extrusion instability. Basically, these methods are to enhance miscibility at metering section and to scale down the temperature range of melt materials and fluctuation range, thereby improving homogeneity.
1. As it accelerates melting completion, the effective length of metering section gets longer and miscibility is higher, thereby improving the homogeneity of melts.
2. Lower temperature of screw tip
As the start of melt is delayed at screw surface, the destruction of solid bed can be prevented or delayed to scale down temperature range and to diminish changes.
3. Bring down temperature of barrel front part
The viscosity of melts is lowered at barrel front part, thereby increasing the resistance at the front part and miscibility.
4. Diminish channel depth at metering section
As the channel depth gets shallow, more energy is used for mixing and miscibility will be enhanced.
5. Make screw compression section longer
Since melt process is stabilized, the fluctuation of pressure and temperature will get scarce.
6. Increase the temperature of rear barrel
Generally, the temperature at rear barrel is maintained very low but it is to make up for the heat needed for melting. If melt delay is minimized, the effective length of metering section will get longer.
